Eduardo is also a long time student who is currently learning all the tong Leong disciplines. Anthony Bernardo gets promoted! |
Congratulations to Anthony Bernardo for passing his orange belt in Tong Leong Karate. His test consisted of demonstrating the won die techniques, 10 minute squat, wugole, Yu en Toe Tow, and Duish. In addition, he successfully passes his yellow-orange belt in Tzee Wai Kuen. We look forward to many more testing announcements. |
2008 Battle of Baltimore |
As usual Master John Burdick hosted another amazing tournament in Baltimore MD. Grand Master Agrella, Soki Dai Bruce Harvey, Sensei Tommy V judged throughout the tournaments fighting, kata, and weapons divisions. Both the Virginia and the Gaithersburg school competed in the weapons, kata, and fighting division. Special thanks to Master Burdick for being such a great host. | Grand Master publishes “The Chi of Tong Leong” |
After many years of planning and preparation, Grand Master Agrella finally published his latest 142 page book. Grand Master Agrella’s 50 plus years experience in the martial arts has taught him to be successful in and out of the martial arts arena. The many highlights of the Chi of Tong Leong discusses the importance of chi and the mystery behind it, yin and yang, the proper methodology of stances, and a detailed breakdown of the “The Line”. The line is considered one of the many trademark training methods created and practiced daily by Grand Master Agrella and his students. In addition, it's considered a how-to-guide on surviving in the real world by many. We encourage everyone to read our 15 page sample of the Chi of Tong Leong. |
2008 Wings People Tournament |
Master Wong of Wong’s people recently hosted a kung fu tournament that was nothing short of his reputation. Grand Master Agrella and Sensei Paul Thomas judged throughout the tournament in the fighting, kata, and weapons divisions. Jeremy Feldblyum tests for yellow belt |
It’s with great pleasure to announce that Grand Master Agrella tested Jeremy for his yellow belt which consists of knowing the forms Tong Leong and Sam Sow, the line, and a ten minute squat. After months of training with the Grand Master, Jeremy Feldblyum is now a yellow belt in the Tong Leong system. It’s with great pleasure to announce that Grand Master Agrella successfully tested Jeremy for the form Tong Leong, and the techniques required to properly mastering the system. His comprehension of the martial arts improves everyday , and we look forward to seeing him test for Sam sow and the ten minute squat. Successful completion of the Tong Leong, Sam Sow, 10 minute squat, and the techniques are the core requirement to achieve a yellow belt in Karate-Do. Grand Master Agrella tests additional students in Tong Leong |
This week has been very busy for Grand Master Agrella with the extensive testing sessions scheduled. It’s with great honor to announce that Nikki Kemp successfully tested for Yee Tong Leong Dow, a straight sword weapons kata. In addition, Grand Master Agrella promoted Anthony Bernardo and Kevin Parsakia to wong die in Tong Leong. The test consisted of a grueling 45 minute physical regiment, kata demonstrations, and a 10 minute squat. The succesfull testing is just another example of how disciplined and complex the Tong Leong School of Martial Arts system truly is. We look forward to many more opportunities to show everyone how talented Grand Master Agrella and his students are. |
6th Annual Awesome Nationals |
Gerald Dawson, promoter of 6th Annual Awesome Nationals, recently invited Tong Leong School of Martial arts to compete on April 28, 2008. Grand Master Agrella, Master Ti Ching, and Soki Dai Bruce Harvey helped judge throughout the event. Sensei Paul Thomas fought hard and represented Tong Leong well. In addition, his tudi name will be revealed to the school on April 29, 2008 by Grand Master Agrella.

Soki Dai Bruce Harvey prepares for 5th Dan in Macaco Preto |
Soke Dai Bruce Harvey has been training over 15 hours a week one-on-one with Grand Master Agrella for a couple months now to complete his 4th Dan rank in Macaco Preto. His success in the Macaco Preto, Kendo, Tong Leong, and IAI-DO disciplines has been well recognized by Grand Master Agrella and the organization. Soki Dai Bruce Harvey will shortly undergo testing for his 5th Dan in Macaco Preto. We wish him the best of luck. |

We are especially to happy to have her back because of the role of she played in organizing our woman's self defense program. Tong leong welcomes “Soke Dai” Bruce Harvey |
It’s with great pleasure to announce that Master Bruce Harvey has been appointed the title of “Soke Dai” Bruce Harvey. Soke Dai Bruce Harvey is now the chief instructor of Tong Leong, and only reports to Grand Master Agrella. He has been training under Grand Master Agrella since age 4 and carries on the traditional Tong Leong knowledge by teaching five days a week. We all can agree that the long standing tradition and reputation of Tong Leong is in safe hands under the tutelage of Grand Master Agrella, Soke Dai Bruce Harvey, and our other talented instructors. |

Tong leong celebrates year of the rat!! |
The Tong Leong School of Martial Arts celebrated Chinese New Year’s by attending the 2008 Washington DC celebration at the Chinatown Community Cultural Center. This year’s event was hosted by Master Wong and the Wong People. Grand Master Agrella and the Teong Leong School of Martial Arts made an everlasting impression on the audience by arranging a demonstration for the audience. Special thanks to Master Bruce Harvey for coaching the Tong leong students and attending the celebration with Grand Master Agrella. General Guan Celebration |

After years of training, and preparation Grand master Agrella has scheduled to test four of his students in Macaco Preto. Master Bruce Harvey is testing for sandon, Instructor Paul Thomas is testing for sho dan, Anthony Bernardo is testing for hikyu, and Kevin Parsakia is testing for sankyu. 2007 Tong Leong Seminar |
On November 2nd and 3rd, 2007 Grand Master Agrella hosted a Tong Leong seminar to welcome our newest addition to the organization. Each 4 hour training session consisted of learning the line, stances, Tzee Wai Kuen, kata, fighting, IAIDO, and Kendo. Master Bruce Harvey, Senior Instructor Paul Thomas, and Instructor Nikki Kemp came down from Virginia to help with the training. Master Lee and his students participated in the seminar. They proved to be excellent students and will be a fine addition to Tong Leong. We will post more information about upcoming seminars. |
2007 Grand Master Agrella’s Birthday party |
Last year’s birthday party set such high standards for 2007. With the help of Senior Instructor Paul Thomas, Instructor Tanita, this year’s party was a great success. Over 50 students, friends, and family members of Grand Master Agrella attended. In addition, three major announcements were made. First, Grand Master Agrella designates Master Ti Ching as his exclusive representative in Kuen Sow Gwo Shuh Goan. In addition, Master Bruce Harvey was announced that he’s being trained to eventually take over the Tong Leong School. Students as far back as Tampa Bay, Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C came to add to the celebration. Finally, Grand Master Agrella has announced the production of DVD videos and a documentary outlining the martial arts, and role Tong Leong has placed in the industry which are being produced and developed by Mo Brodie of Ruff&Tuff Productions and Mohammed Malik.

Instructor Paul Thomas is promoted to brown belt |
| Grand Master Agrella has been training and preparing Instructor Paul Thomas for over a year to test for his brown belt Tong Leong and Tzee Wai Kuen. Combined the process took as long a five hours, and consisted of a wide range of techniques. Instructor had to demonstrate the application of over 40 techniques ranging from chokes, leg sweeps, and takedowns to name a few. 19th Annual World Fall Classic |
| The Tong Leong School of Martial Arts attended this years of World Fall Classic tournament run by Master Montez of Gold Sun Dojo located in Hampton Virginia. The youth and adult divisions were open to Kung Fu, Tai Kwon Do, and Shorin-Ryu to name a few. Grand Master Agrella judged throughout they entire day, and represented Tong Leong in its finest form. 2007 US Capitol Classics |
| Grand Master Agrella and a handful of his students attended the three day venue located at Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel hosted by Grand Master Brown. During the three day venue, Grand Master Agrella judged the sparring, kata, and weapons divisions for both under belts and black belts. This year’s capitol classics tournament had continuous fighting, team fighting, synchronized fighting, and self defense demonstrations to name a few. Marc McCarthy tested for Apprentice black belt |
Marc McCarthy, a long time student of Grand Master Agrella successfully tested for his apprentice black belt. He has been training in the martial arts since age 5, and with Grand Master Agrella since 2001. Sensei Marc McCarthy will be a great addition to the instructors staff. | Tong Leong attended Grand Master Yong Sung Lee’s Battle of USA tournament in crystal city, Virginia from July 20 – 22nd. The three day venue consisted of highly competitive competitors ranging from under belts to black belts, as well as workshops, an award banquet, and IAIDO seminar run by our very own Grand Master Agrella. Grand Master Agrella judged the three day venue in its entirety. Tong Leong would also like to thank Master Mopen and his son for helping with the three day venue. Master Kuo T'ai completed his 7th Dan testing |
| Master Kuo T'ai has successfully completed his testing. His testing began April 7th, 2007, and was finished on July 7th, 2007 for his 7th Dan. Master Kuo T'ai has now begun his testing for the rank of "Professor". He is expected to complete his testing cycle approximately in late September, or October.

5th Annual Awesome Nationals Martial Arts championship |
Tong Leong competed June 30th at the Awesome nationals in columbia, Maryland. Grand Master Agrella served as a judge during the fighting,kata, and weapons division for competitors of all ages. 23rd Annual Bluegrass Nationals |
Tong Leong made an everlasting impression at the 23rd Annual Ken Eubanks Blue Grass Nationals in Kentucky. The two day venue consisted of competition and an award banquet where our very own Nikki Kemp was awarded the title of #1 Ranked NASKA competitor. Nikki Kemp competed using IAIDO, and advanced Tong Leong forms taught by the Grand Master himself as well as Master Bruce Harvey. |
Sensei Bruce Harvey prepares to test |
Grand Master Agrella recently authorized the official announcement that Sensei Bruce Harvey is testing to go beyond 1st Dan. He underwent a grueling 9 month training regiment of demonstrating and explaining the 40 Tong Leong Katas to be eligible to test. Sensei Bruce Harvey has an extensive background in law enforcement, and has been training with the Grand Master since age 5. His background is in karate-DO, Tzee Wai Kuen, IAIDO, and Kendo. He trains five days a week at the Madison County School, and every Sunday with the Grand Master in Gaithersburg. Grand Master Agrella is very impressed with Sensei Bruce Harvey’s abilities as instructor and martial artist. He plays an active role school as an instructor, judge, and competitor in the t the various tournaments Grand Master Agrella attends. Some of the major tournament includes Capitol Classics, 20th Annual Compete 2007 Tournament, 2007 JW Classics, Master Apollo’s 25th Annual Maryland Open, and Battle of Baltimore. |
Master Kuo T'ai finishes another testing session |
Master Kuo Tai completed a 5 hour testing session with the Grand Master supervising, Professor Keith Santagata and Kevin Parsakia as uke’s. The five hour testing session is one of many sessions required to complete his 7th degree testing requirements. Upon completion of the testing process, he will continue on to an professors rank in Tzee Wai Kuen. Today’s testing session consisted of demonstrating and applying choke holds, take down, wrist locks, pressure points, come along holds, leg sweeps, defending against opponents while in a prone position, and applying advanced reversal techniques. These techniques are considered very dangerous and require a great deal of control when training. Grand Master Agrella predicts the testing process will take several months. |
Master Mopen continues his testing |
Master Mopen continued his testing for 1st master instructor for Macaco Preto Professors rank. His testing consisted of a grueling 5 hour session with the Grand Master supervising and Professor Keith Santagata as a uke. During the testing he demonstrated advanced knowledge and application of Macaco Preto. More specifically, he demonstrated and explained suplex, arm locks, wrist locks, take downs, motor muscle skills, basic physics, and body anatomy. He was asked in depth questions regarding all subjects, and answered knowledgeably and correctly. This session was done superbly and impressively showing the vast knowledge of Master Mopen. As a matter of fact, Professor Santagata was impressed with the skills and knowledge he demonstrated during the test. He has been training with the grand master for over 27 years, and recently started to train in IAI-DO and kendo. The testing process will take several months. |

Master MoPen with an already extensive background in the martial arts is now training in Kendo and Iaido under the tutelage of Grand Master Agrella. The Tong Leong Macaco Preto program is currently being developed under the guidance of Grand Master Agrella and Master MoPen. We believe that the Macaco Preto program will be a huge success with Master Mopen as an instructor. The kendo and IAIDO program offered by the Tong Leong School of Martial arts is by no means typical among other schools offering the same disciplines. Grand Master Agrella started the first day of testing Master Mopen. The first day of testing consisted of a 4 hour session where Grand Master Agrella evaluated how Master Mopen applied various self defense techniques. In order to pass, he must demonstrate advanced knowledge and application of a wide range of techniques ranging from the line, wrist locks, kicking, punching, submission holds to name a few. The entire testing process will consist of 4 hour testing intervals taking as long as 7 months to complete. More updates will be provided at an later date. |

Grand master Agrella tests the 1st Macaco Preto Disciple |
Grand Master Agrella is testing Master Mopen to become the 1st Macaco Preto Jujutsu disciple in Tong Leong history. Master Mopen's Tong Leong training is in Tzee Wai Kuen as a 6th Dan, and soon to be a Macaco Preto disciple. His training with the Grand Master began as early as 1981, and their relationship has since then become brothers as well as student and pupil. Thru the study of the Martial Arts we can find the oneness that pervades the world we live in. It is our belief and hope that will be the bridge to the next generation of Tong Leong's teachings and teach the system in the Grand Master's image. As a Tong Leong Macaco Preto disciple, he will document and teach the totality of the discipline as it was taught to him by Grand Master Agrella. After successful completion of the testing process, he will represent Tong Leong and Grand Master Agrella using the same long standing tradition that was passed on to him by the Grand Master himself. The teaching curriculum which is currently being developed by Master Mopen, will allow both Grand Master Agrella and Master Mopen to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of Tong Leong. We expect the testing process to take several months because of the complexity involved. 2007 Tong Leong IAI-DO Tameshigiri Seminar |
Grand Master Agrella, head of Tong Leong, held a five hour seminar teaching IAIDO. In particular, he demonstrated Tameshigiri, otherwise known as the japanese art of test cutting. Tameshigiri is considered an complex technique by many IAIDO teachers because it emphasizes discipline, stance, and blade placement to name a few variables involved. Master Bruce Harvey showed amazing accuracy during the seminar when executing two way cuts. In addition, Grand Master Agrella taught Tameshigiri to Nikki Kemp, who is now in the tong leong books as being both the first female and youngest student of Tameshigiri. Nikki Kemp, is also ranked #1 by naska in intermediate fighting, weapons, and kata. Kevin Parsakia also utilized the six months IAIDO training he received by succesfully executing a one way cut. 2007 Tong Leong IAI-DO seminar |
Grand Master Agrella, head of Tong Leong, invited the Golden Sun Dojo staff located in hampton Virginia to attend a special IAI-DO workshop. The goal of this workshop was to provide both current and perspective martial art practioners with the opportunity to learn more about the way of bushido. The golden sun dojo instructors, and especially Master Montez ,did an amazing job of understanding and applying the IAI-DO techniques taught during the 5 hour workshop. The seminar was such a success that Grand Master Agrella decided to make this one time workshop now a weekly event. In addition, Sensei Harvey had the opportunity to demonstrate some of the traditional techniques that Grand Master Agrella taught at past classes. | Tong Leong would like to thank Master Apolo for the personal invitation to his 2 day tournament. Grand Master Agrella was chief referee during the many divisions consisting of jujitsu, self-defense, weapons, and forms. Master Kou Tai and the Professor played helped with judging and served as excellent mentors to all the Tong Leong competitors. Grand Master Agrella arranged to have many of his IAI-DO students compete, and we all walked away with positive results. Nicole Kemp, a student in the Madison Virginia School and member of the Kuen Sow World Championship Competition Team, travelled to Reston to compete in Charlie Lee's World Series of Martial Arts Tournament of Champions. The tournament had a NASKA 5A World Rating. Nikki competed it weapons, kata and fighting. She was trained by Grandmaster Agrella and Master Kuo Tzu-i. 20th Annual Compete 2007 Tournament |
Grand Master Agrella and a handful of his students were invited to attend the 20th Annual Compete 2007 tournament hosted by Red Dragon martial arts in California. During the three day tournament Grand Master Agrella was a referee for the weapons, kata, and sparring divisions consisting of children, adults, underbelts, and black belts. Karyim's 21st National Battle of the Martial Arts Championship |

Tong Leong had the pleasure of attending Howard Karyim Moore's 21st National Battle of the Martial Arts Championship tournament on Saturday January 20th, 2007. Students from the rockville, west virginia, and madison virginia. We had as much as 12 competitors, some of which competed for grand Champion. In addition, we have exclusive footage of our Tong Leong students who competed in underbelt forms. Grand Master Agrella and Master Mopen were judging they entire day. Sensei Flora Santagata served as an excellent mentor to the Tong Leong students. Grand Master Agrella trained both Nikki Kemp and Master Bruce Harvey in IAI-DO, and they performed demonstrations with live swords. The tournament results were: Master Bruce Harvey: 3rd Place

Grand Master Agrella's West Virginia school is finally open after
months of preparation and planning. He made the grand opening official by
inaugurating the new school on January 5th,6th,7th, and 8th. He also made
The Professor and Flora Santagata head of the school. Grand Master agrella
trained the students and instructors 9 hours each day in Tzee Wai Kuen,
Tong Leong Protocol, and Tong Leong Karate-DO during the grand opening.
